It Starts With An Idea

When founder Rita Thompson was asked about the inspiration behind starting their nonprofit, she shared, “There’s a Christmas movie called It’s a Wonderful Life starring Jimmy Stewart. The premise of the film centers around a character who, overwhelmed with despair, wishes he had never been born. His guardian angel, Clarence, grants that wish, allowing him to see the impact of his absence. The movie culminates in a scene at a cemetery, where the character realizes that, had he never been born, he wouldn’t have been there to save his brother from drowning. Clarence reminds him that because of his absence, his brother’s life was never saved. The message is clear: a life is a terrible thing to waste.”

Rita continued, “The Not Alone Pregnancy Center was founded by my husband Marvin Thompson and me based on the belief that every child deserves a birthday. Every child has a story that is yet to be told.

216 North Hamilton Street – Our First Location

We operated at this location for five years, beginning in 2010, when we first established our organization. It was here that we navigated the process of incorporation and formally launched our nonprofit. Initially, our operations were limited to two days a week, along with every other Saturday. During this period, we distributed clothing and fostered collaborations with local churches and businesses. On average, we engaged with 5 to 10 individuals each month.
